Samsung Galaxy Fold launched in India at Rs. 1.65 lakh
Just weeks after its re-release in some international markets, Samsung has launched the now fixed Galaxy Fold in India today. The ultra-premium foldable phone arrives as the company's most advanced, most expensive, and surprisingly, the most delicate device ever made. That said, the key highlights are surely its novel form factor, new software interface, a multitude of cameras, and top-of-the-line internals. Here's our roundup.
Samsung Galaxy Fold: Design and display
The Galaxy Fold features two displays: a 4.58-inch HD+ (1960x840 pixels) external screen and a foldable 7.3-inch QHD+ (2152x1536 pixels) Infinity Flex internal display. It has a plastic outer casing and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Further, the improved version comes with an integrated display protective layer, a reinforced hinge area, and reduced space between the hinge and screen to protect against dust and debris.
Galaxy Fold packs a total of six cameras
In the folded state, the Galaxy Fold offers a 10MP selfie camera which is housed above the external screen. In the unfolded position, the notch in the top-right corner of the internal display houses a 10MP+8MP dual camera setup. Lastly, on the rear, the device gets a triple-lens main camera with a 16MP ultra-wide sensor, a 12MP wide-angle sensor, and a 12MP telephoto sensor.
Under the hood
The Galaxy Fold is powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset, paired with 12GB RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage. It packs two batteries, one on each side of the hinge, for a combined capacity of 4,380mAh. It also supports 15W wired and wireless charging, as well as 9W reverse wireless-charging. The device runs Android Pie-based One UI and packs AKG-tuned stereo speakers.
The Galaxy Fold comes with free Galaxy Buds
In the box, the Galaxy Fold comes with premium freebies including Galaxy Buds, a carbon fiber-like external casing, a charging brink, Type-C cable, SIM ejector tool, a Type-C adapter, and some booklets.
Samsung Galaxy Fold also offers App Continuity, three-app multitasking
To leverage both the screens, Samsung has introduced App Continuity feature which automatically opens the app in the main internal display when you switch to the tablet mode. Further, in the tablet mode, you can run three apps simultaneously for an impressive multitasking experience. Notably, Google is also working to optimize Android OS to support the foldable form factor.
Pricing and availability
The Galaxy Fold is priced at Rs. 1,64,999 for the solo 12GB/512GB configuration. The phone will become available for pre-booking from October 4 and the deliveries will commence from October 20. Samsung is also offering a Galaxy Fold Premier Service which includes premium delivery, 24*7 dedicated expert, and 1-year accidental damage protection.
