Samsung Galaxy Fold to launch in India on October 1
After releasing it in markets like South Korea, UK, and US, Samsung is bringing the Galaxy Fold to India. The company has sent out launch invites for an event on October 1, where the ultra-premium foldable phone will be unveiled. To recall, the now fixed Fold saw a long delay after durability concerns came to fore, following which Samsung had to postpone its release.
Here's what all has changed on the Galaxy Fold
According to Samsung, the top protective layer of the display has been "extended beyond the bezel, making it apparent that it is an integral part of the display structure and not meant to be removed." The novel foldable device has also received some "additional reinforcements to better protect the device from external particles" and the hinge area has also been strengthened with protection caps.
However, there are some key durability concerns with the Fold
Though Samsung has marketed the Fold as a flagship device, it would've been better if the company said it's a niche/luxury product. Despite all the 'fixes', concerns about the $1,980 device's durability persist. YouTuber Zack Nelson (JerryRigEverything) recently demonstrated how easily Fold's display could be scratched/damaged with nails/dust. In fact, Samsung itself has released a guide for taking care of the Fold.
In India, the Galaxy Fold will cost nearly Rs. 1,40,000
Considering that the Galaxy Fold costs $1,980 in the US, we can expect the premium device to arrive in India somewhere around Rs. 1,40,000. However, we might see an even higher price, given all the tariffs on completely build units. The phone is also tipped to come with exclusive customer care service, which might include 24x7 online support and one-on-one interaction with support personnel.
Meanwhile, here's recalling the Galaxy Fold
The Galaxy Fold features a 4.58-inch HD+ external screen, a 7.3-inch QHD+ Infinity Flex display, and a total of six cameras. The premium phone is powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage. Under the hood, it has a battery capacity of 4,380mAh and runs Android Pie-based One UI.
