Galaxy A8s: Samsung's first smartphone to feature Infinity-O display
We know Samsung is revamping its upcoming smartphones with a new design, featuring notch-based Infinity displays and a revamped One UI software to enable single-hand usage. Now, it is being reported that Samsung will debut the Infinity displays on Galaxy A8s to be launched early next year. In the latest development, concept renders and key specs of the phone have leaked. Here's a leak-peek.
How Samsung is aiming to redefine smartphone displays
To achieve more screen real-estate, OEMs have adopted the notch. However, companies like OPPO and Vivo have furthered their vision of an all-screen design by offering pop-up cameras. But Samsung is not following these trends. Instead, it has invented camera holes in the display, completely eliminated the bezels and hidden the sensors under the screen to possibly achieve highest screen-to-body ratio on smartphones.
Meanwhile, here are some details about Samsung's new Infinity Displays
Samsung recently unveiled a new line-up of Infinity Displays that will come to future smartphones. Alongside the Infinity Flex display, the tech giant unveiled four new screens: Infinity-U: A half oval cut-out similar to the Essential phone Infinity-V: An angular V-shaped notch similar to Infinity-U Infinity-O: A circular cut-out positioned on the left side of the phone New Infinity: A notch-less, bezel-less display.
Here's how Galaxy A8s will look like with Infinity-O display
The Galaxy A8s will feature the Infinity-O display with a 6.7mm (diameter) cut-out for the front camera on the top-left corner. Further, the sensors are expected to be concealed under the display and earpiece to be moved to the top edge of the frame. This design should allow Galaxy A8s to boast a screen-to-body ratio of over 90% and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.
How will the software leverage this new design?
With the existing notches, OEMs use the so-called "ears" to display time, network, battery level, and other notification badges. However, with this 'odd' hole in the screen, it will be interesting to see how Samsung and other app developers leverage the screen space.
Galaxy A8s: Here's a look at key specifications
According to the leak, the Galaxy A8s will feature a 6.3-inch display with full-HD+ resolution, a 24MP+5MP+10MP triple rear-camera, and a 24MP selfie camera. It is expected to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor, paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage (expandable upto 512GB). Further, the phone may run Android Pie-based One UI and pack a 3,400mAh battery.
