Samsung Galaxy A8s launching today: First phone with camera-hole design
Samsung is all set to launch the Galaxy A8s, the world's first smartphone to sport camera hole design, in China today. The smartphone will debut the latest Infinity-O display and is expected to feature a mid-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset, upto 8GB RAM, a triple rear-camera setup, and a 24MP front camera. Here's more on the launch event, live streaming, and Galaxy A8s.
How to watch the live streaming?
The Galaxy A8s launch event is scheduled to begin at 4pm China Standard Time. This means you will be able to live stream the event in India at 1:30pm. The event will be streamed via Samsung's official China website and Galaxy Club webpage on Weibo.
Samsung Galaxy A8s: At a glance
Up front, the Galaxy A8s will feature the Infinity-O display with a 6.7mm (diameter) cut-out for the front camera on the top-left corner. The sensors are expected to be concealed under the display and earpiece to be moved to the top edge of the frame. Further, TENAA images suggest there will be a dual-tone gradient back panel and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
Samsung Galaxy A8s tipped to sport an LCD display
As per the TENAA listing, the Galaxy A8s will feature a 6.39-inch full-HD+ (2340x1080 pixels) display. However, the display will be an LCD panel and not a Super AMOLED screen which we have seen on some Galaxy A-series models. Moreover, with the Infinity-O display design, the phone should boast a screen-to-body ratio of over 90% and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.
And, what about camera features
The Galaxy A8s will sport a 24MP+5MP+10MP triple rear-camera, paired with an LED flash. Up front, the camera cut-out will house a 24MP selfie snapper. Incidentally, the camera optics on A8s are quite similar to the Galaxy A7 (2018). Moreover, as seen in the TENAA images, the middle sensor has a sort of golden/yellow ring around it which could be an additional flash module.
Under the hood
According to the TENAA listing, the Galaxy A8s will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor, paired with 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage (expandable upto 512GB). Further, the phone will run Android Oreo 8.1 out of the box and not the latest Android Pie-based One UI. Lastly, the Galaxy A8s will pack a 3,300mAh battery.
