Samsung Galaxy A70s will feature the 64MP camera
According to ETNews (via Indian Express), the Galaxy A70s will be the first smartphone from the company to sport a 64MP rear camera. The new model will arrive as the successor to the recently announced Galaxy A70. However, it will retain the design and features of the standard A70 while rocking a Samsung-made ISOCELL Bright GW1 64MP sensor on the back.
Everything to know about Samsung's ISOCELL Bright GW1 64MP sensor
Announced in May, Samsung's ISOCELL Bright GW1 is a 1/1.72 inch sensor which packs 0.8-micrometer pixels for a total resolution of 64 megapixels. The sensor uses pixel-merging technology to produce bright 16MP images with 1.6-micrometer pixels in low-light environments and highly-detailed 64MP shots in brighter settings as the larger sensor lets in more light. The new sensor also supports improved real-time HDR.
Earlier, Samsung had shelved the plan to launch 64MP phone
Interestingly, according to @IceUniverse, Samsung has "restarted" its plans to launch a Galaxy A series phone with a 64MP camera. This suggests the company was working on this idea but had shelved its plans for unknown reasons. The renewed interest in making a 64MP camera smartphone might have been because of Realme and Redmi announcements that have gotten the tech community excited.
Race to launch the first-ever 64MP camera phone
Both Realme and Redmi are working to launch smartphones with a 64MP camera. They have separately released the first-ever images captured by their 64MP camera handsets but neither of them has announced a release date. Notably, Realme might unveil its upcoming camera-centric phone at an event on August 8 while IceUniverse claims Redmi will launch its 64MP phone "this month".
