Why Samsung Galaxy S10 is waking up automatically in pockets
Samsung's Galaxy S10 family boasts of an incredible set of features, including hole punch front cameras and reverse wireless charging. However, just a few days after the phones went on sale, users have started reporting a rather annoying problem on the flagships. They claimed that their S10 is waking up automatically in pockets, leading to unintended touches/actions. Here's why this could be happening.
Proximity sensor not seems to be working properly
Most phones, even the budget ones, come equipped with a proximity sensor for turning the display off when you attend a call or place the device in your pocket. In this case, the reports shared on Samsung Community and Reddit indicate that the proximity sensors on the S10 lineup are not working properly. This is leading to the unintended touches/actions from within the pocket.
How these unintended touches are affecting users
Though the issue is not a big one, users who have spent as much as $1,000 for the latest Samsung flagships are obviously annoyed. Their phones are activating in pockets from fabric touches (thanks to double tap to wake). Some reported cases of fingerprint error vibrations, while others complained about lock screen features, like camera viewfinder, activating automatically and resulting in battery drainage.
'Prevent Accidental Touches' also doesn't work
Samsung offers 'prevent accidental touches' feature as a way to keep the phone from detecting unintended inputs, but that option (activated by default) doesn't seem to work in this particular case. Even lowering the sensitivity of the screen isn't working, users have reported. As per Android Police, the only thing that could help a bit is disabling double tap to wake and always-on-display.
No word from Samsung so far
Even as several users have complained about this issue, Samsung has neither acknowledged the problem nor said when it might be rolling out a fix. It is not exactly clear if this is a software or hardware issue, but we hope the South Korean giant will resolve the problems pretty soon - as it's their flagships we're talking about.
