At Rs. 60lakh, Samsung's TV costs more than Mercedes E-class
Samsung has launched the world's first QLED 8K TV series in India, and you should brace for impact in case you want to buy one of the premium models. The top-of-the-line 98-inch model, which will only be made to order, comes with a mind-numbing price tag of Rs. 59,99,900 - the equivalent for roughly 2Kg of pure Gold. Here's all about this premium line-up.
The QLED 8K TV series pack 33 million pixels
Samsung's QLED 8K TVs are touted to offer real 8K resolution, thanks to the company's proprietary 8K AI upscaling technology, Quantum processor 8K, and Quantum HDR. Available in 98-inch, 82-inch, 75-inch, and 65-inch display sizes, all models pack 33 million pixels which is four times the resolution of 4K TVs and 16 times that of Full HD TVs.
These TVs can upscale any picture to 8K resolution
Samsung claims that its 8K AI Upscaling technology and Quantum Processor 8K use machine learning to transform all pictures into 8K. So, regardless of your source (set-top box, HDMI, USB or others), the TV will upscale the content to appear in 8K quality. And not just video, the processor will also optimize the audio settings to suit the content and your room layout.
The QLED range also supports AirPlay 2 and Bixby
Samsung's QLED range, which includes the 8K models and more *affordable* 4K TVs, can be controlled through voice commands via Bixby or Google Assistant. These models also come with iTunes Movies and TV Shows app, bringing your entire content library to the TV. Further, with Apple AirPlay 2 support, the TVs let you stream videos, photos, music, and more directly from your Apple devices.
When not in use, turn the TV into art piece
When not in use, you can set an interactive background to display weather and time or set artworks and photos as wallpapers. Samsung claims that these TVs can blend in with home interiors as they can be mounted on the walls without any gaps. Moreover, with a single translucent power cable and One Connect Box (media receiver), you can do away with unattractive wires.
Here's a look at the pricing of 2019 QLED TVs
