Will India witness the annular solar eclipse on October 2?
On October 2, skywatchers globally will get a front-row seat to an annular solar eclipse. This 'ring of fire' event happens when the Moon sneaks between the Earth and the Sun. If it completely blocks out the Sun, we experience a total solar eclipse. However, if the Moon's a bit further away from Earth and doesn't cover the Sun completely, we get the stunning annular or 'ring of fire' eclipse, showcasing a beautiful ring of light around the Moon.
When will the upcoming eclipse occur?
The next annular solar eclipse is set to kick off in the southern Pacific Ocean at 3:42pm UTC and wrap up in the southern Atlantic Ocean around 8:39pm UTC. The peak of the eclipse will take place over Argentina by 6:45pm UTC. Overall, the whole event—from the first place to see a partial eclipse to the last—will span about six hours.
Will it be visible in India?
Unfortunately, we won't be able to catch the eclipse in India since it'll be happening at night. If you're in places like Easter Island in Chile or parts of Argentina, you can enjoy the sight. And for those in other South American countries like Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and even Hawaii, the Sun will look like a shiny ring!
Indians can login to YouTube
Since folks in India can't see the eclipse, YouTube has got our backs! There are plenty of channels that live stream solar eclipses, so just hop onto one of them to catch the action. The exact time for the live stream will be announced later, but we recommend tuning in at 9:00pm IST.
