JioMoney reportedly exposes user data, including Aadhaar and JioMoney mPIN
An online report has surfaced recently that claims that Reliance Jio's payments platform, Jio Money, carries a bug that exposes user data, including details like Aadhaar number, date of birth, and JioMoney mPIN. The bug was discovered by an app user, CS Akshay. However, Reliance Jio has completely refuted the claims calling it an attempt to "malign" its image. Here's more on it.
Reliance Jio's response to the reports
"We confirm that there is no such issue in JioMoney. Prima facie, the claims appear to be mischievous attempts to malign our services. We assure our users that their data is safe and maintained with highest security," said Reliance Jio to BGR India.
How CS Akshay found out about the bug
If reports are to be believed JioMoney user CS Akshay, frustrated by Jio's issue resolution speed, decided to take matters into his own hand. He analyzed Jio's code and found several loopholes which exposed user data. Akshay had set up a micro site for the topic, and had tweeted about it too. However, he took them down after getting a call from Jio.
Jio had earlier been accused of exposing user data
While not much is known about the issue, it should be noted that this isn't the first time Jio has been accused of exposing customer data. In 2017, a Rajasthan-based coder named Imran Chhimpa had figured out a way to get Jio users' details just by having their Jio phone numbers. He was arrested after setting up a website giving access to such data.
