Reliance Industries to open first solar giga-factory in FY25
Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) is set to start work at its inaugural solar giga-factory in the financial year (FY) 2025. This development marks a significant shift toward green energy under the leadership of Chairman Mukesh Ambani. The company's annual report, released today, disclosed that this facility will serve as an all-encompassing manufacturing hub for various solar components.
Giga-factory to produce diverse solar components
The upcoming giga-factory is designed to produce a wide range of solar components. These include photovoltaic (PV) modules, cells, wafers and ingots, polysilicon, and glass. The first phase of module and cell manufacturing is scheduled for commissioning in FY25. This initiative is part of RIL's broader strategy to position the green power segment as a key growth engine for the company.
RIL's panels receive BIS certification
RIL's annual report also confirmed that the solar panels produced in Jamnagar have received Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification. This endorsement assures the quality and reliability of their products. The company believes that within the next five to seven years, this sector could potentially outperform other business areas due to the growing focus on green energy.
Aim for self-sufficiency in green energy sector
In addition to the solar giga-factory, RIL plans to operationalize its new energy manufacturing facilities over the next 12 months. The company is also working toward developing a local supply chain for self-sufficiency and reducing reliance on imports. This strategic move is expected to strengthen India's position in the global green energy sector and contribute significantly to the country's sustainability goals.
