Xiaomi takes on rivals with a massive 98-inch 4K TV
When you think of larger than life televisions, the first few names that come to mind are generally Sony, Samsung, and LG. However, this time it's a Chinese brand. Xiaomi has reiterated its interest in big screens by launching a massive 98-inch Redmi Smart TV Max in China. The new model arrives as a flagship offering with high-end specs and a stunning 4K resolution.
Design and display
The Redmi Smart TV 98-inch model comes with slim dark greyish bezels that appear to be the same size on all four sides. The TV can either be wall-mounted or erected on a four-legged metal stand. The display is a 4K panel that comes with HDR 10 certification, 192 partition dynamic backlight zones, and MEMC motion compensation technology for content upscaling.
But it only packs dual 8W speakers
The Redmi Smart TV Max, despite its massive proportions, only packs a couple of 8W speakers. However, with support for DTS audio and Dolby Audio technologies, the TV promises to offer clear treble and thumping bass.
Under the hood
The TV is powered by a 12nm quad-core 1.9GHz Amlogic Cortex processor, paired with Mali-G31 MP2 GPU, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. It runs on Android-based PatchWall UI, and hence you get access to Google Play Store, Assistant, and Chromecast. Lastly, it supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2.4GHz/5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, three HDMI ports, Ethernet port, and 2 USB slots, among other connectivity options.
Redmi Smart TV Max: Pricing and availability
The Redmi Smart TV Max 98-inch is priced at CNY 19,999 (approx. Rs. 215,600). The TV will go on sale in China starting April 6 via Xiaomi Mall and Xiaomi Home stores.
