Buy Redmi Note 9 Pro or wait for Max version?
If you had planned to buy the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, you might have to wait for sometime considering the sale of the handset has been postponed in India. However, given its similarities with the Redmi Note 9 Pro, should you wait for the Max version or instead buy the standard model which is already available via flash sales? Here's our answer.
What about design and display? Are the two different?
As far as design highlights and display features are concerned, both the Max model and the regular Redmi Note 9 Pro are exactly the same. They sport a center-aligned punch-hole design, premium all-glass bodies and are offered in three color variants. Further, both the handsets offer the same 6.67-inch LCD screen with a Full-HD+ resolution and a 20:9 aspect ratio.
For the shutterbugs and selfie lovers
In this department, the comparison is stark. The Max variant has a superior quad-camera arrangement featuring a 64MP main sensor, 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, 5MP macro camera, and 2MP depth sensor. The standard model also offers a versatile setup but with a 48MP main sensor. On the front, the Max version gets a 32MP selfie snapper while the regular model bears a 16MP shooter.
Under the hood
Both the models are powered by a Snapdragon 720G processor and run on MIUI 11. However, the Max model justifies its name with higher 6GB/8GB RAM options while the standard model offers 4GB/6GB of RAM. As for storage, both variants come with 64GB/128GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 512GB, thanks to a triple-slot tray (dual-SIMs + microSD card).
Battery to Biometrics
In terms of battery and biometrics, both the variants come with a 5,020mAh battery and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. However, the Max version offers 33W fast charging support (adapter comes bundled) while the regular model settles for 18W wired charging. Both the handsets also support the same connectivity options including dual-SIM VoLTE, 802.11a/c, Wi-Fi Direct, VoWi-Fi, NavIC, GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, and a headphone jack.
Pricing: The key factor
The Redmi Note 9 Pro costs Rs. 12,999 for the 4GB/64GB variant and Rs. 15,999 for the 6GB/128GB model. The Max version is priced at Rs. 14,999 for the entry-level 6GB/64GB variant, Rs. 16,999 for the 6GB/128GB model, and Rs. 18,999 for the 8GB/128GB option.
How things stack up?
So, talking of differences between the two models, the Max version has a better 64MP sensor, supports more RAM (up to 8GB), and offers almost double the fast-charging tech offered by the standard model. But is it worth paying the extra buck? Well, it depends on your requirements. If you are heavily invested in gaming or smartphone photography, go for the Max model.
