Ahead of launch, Redmi 8's design and camera details teased
Xiaomi is set to launch Redmi 8 in India on October 9 as it looks to expand its portfolio of budget smartphones in the country. The Chinese tech giant has, in the latest development, activated a teaser page for the upcoming handset, revealing key details about its design, camera, and specifications. Here's our roundup.
Redmi 8 to offer a waterdrop notched display
According to the teasers, the Redmi 8 will feature a waterdrop notched screen with an edge-to-edge screen and a noticeable bottom chin carrying "Redmi" branding. The display is likely to be a 6.21-inch HD+ LCD panel. Further, it will come with "ultimate screen protection" (Gorilla Glass 5 expected), splash resistant build quality, and an Aura Mirror design on the rear panel.
Redmi 8 will offer dual rear cameras
The Redmi 8 is touted to come with a dual-lens rear camera with a "flagship Sony sensor". Previous rumors suggested the camera system could pack a 12MP (f/2.2) main sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, an 8MP (f/2.0) selfie snapper is expected.
Under the hood
Further, as per a recently leaked Google Play Console listing, the Redmi 8 will be powered by an entry-level Snapdragon 439 processor, paired with upto 3GB RAM. As for memory, we can expect to see upto 64GB of expandable storage. Under the hood, it will pack the "most updated battery setup," which as per rumors, could be 5,000mAh battery with 10W fast-charging support.
Pricing and availability
The Redmi 8 will go official in India on Wednesday i.e October 9. The phone is expected to cost Rs. 7,999 for the base-end 2GB RAM/32GB storage variant - the same price at which Redmi 7 was launched in the country.
