Redmi Note 8 Pro v/s Realme XT: Which one's better?
Taking on Realme's camera-centric Realme XT, arch-rival Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Note 8 Pro in India. The latest Redmi handset attracts buyers with a 64MP versatile camera setup, familiar waterdrop notched display, a premium all-glass body, mid-level internals, and an attractive price tag. But considering the two phones have a lot in common, which one should you buy? Here's our head-to-head comparison.
Redmi Note 8 Pro v/s Realme XT: Design
Right of the bat, both the handsets look quite similar, thanks to their edge-to-edge waterdrop notched screens, glass bodies, vertically mounted quad cameras and neat-looking gradient designs on the rear. However, the Realme XT sports an in-screen fingerprint sensor whereas the Redmi Note 8 Pro gets a rear-mounted fingerprint reader. Winner: You be the judge.
All about the screen
The Redmi Note 8 Pro comes with a 6.53-inch LCD display, offering full-HD+ (1080x2340 pixels) resolution at up to 500-nits of brightness. In comparison, the Realme XT sports a marginally smaller 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display with a full-HD+ (1080x2340 pixels) resolution. Further, both handsets offer a near 92% screen-to-body ratio and come with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Winner: Realme XT for its AMOLED screen.
For the shutterbugs
In the camera department, both phones have the same quad-lens setup featuring a 64MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2MP macro lens, and another 2MP depth sensor. And while both cameras offer great value for the money, the Redmi mid-ranger lets you capture subjects as close as 2cm and even record videos using macro and wide-angle lenses. Winner: Redmi Note 8 Pro.
For the selfie lovers
Thanks to the penetration of social media, the selfie camera has become as important a feature as any other in a smartphone. In this department, the Realme XT's 16MP (f/2.0) snapper loses the bout against Redmi Note 8 Pro's 20MP front-facing camera.
Under the hood
The Realme XT is powered by a Snapdragon 712 processor whereas the Redmi Note 8 Pro gets a MediaTek G90T chipset. In terms of memory and storage, both handsets offer upto 8GB RAM and upto 128GB of built-in storage. Interestingly, the Redmi handset gets the advantage of a LiquidCool technology which is touted to keep the chipset cooler by upto 6-degree Celsius.
Battery and connectivity features
Under the hood, the Realme XT packs a 4,000mAh battery and supports 20W fast charging whereas the Redmi contender houses a bigger 4,500mAh battery and offers 18W fast charging. In terms of connectivity, both handsets support dual-SIMs, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, Type-C port, and headphone jack. However, the Redmi handset gets Wi-Fi X antenna for stronger network reception and built-in Alexa support.
Pricing: The key factor
Redmi Note 8 Pro starts at Rs. 14,999 for the 6GB/64GB model and goes upto Rs. 17,999 for the 8GB/128GB variant. In comparison, Realme XT costs Rs. 15,999 for the 4GB/64GB variant, Rs. 16,999 for the 6GB/64GB model, and Rs. 18,999 for the 8GB/128GB configuration.
How things stack up?
Surely, both phones offer an attractive package of modern design and dependable performance. However, while the Realme XT has advantages of an AMOLED display, slightly faster charging, and a marginally powerful chipset, it trails the Redmi offering in terms of battery size, videography capabilities, and thermal management. But given the considerable price difference, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is a better deal.
