65% Indians use AI, double the global average: Microsoft

A recent Microsoft study, titled the Global Online Safety Survey, has revealed that 65% of Indians have used artificial intelligence (AI).
That is more than double the global average.
The survey was conducted between July 19 and August 9, 2024, with a sample size of 15,000 teenagers and adults across 15 countries including India.
Usage surge
AI usage in India has seen significant growth
The study also found that AI usage in India has witnessed a whopping 26% increase from last year.
This is much higher than the global average for the same period.
The report stated, "India is most excited about using AI for translations, answering questions, increasing efficiency at work and helping students with schoolwork."

Millennials lead AI adoption in India
The Microsoft study also emphasized that millennials are leading the way in AI adoption in India. A whopping 84% of this group said they used AI. The report observed that Indian parents are more aware of their kids' digital challenges than last year.
AI apprehensions
Concerns about AI misuse and online risks
Despite the rapid adoption, the study also found that India shares global concerns about potential misuse of AI.
These include issues such as online abuse, deepfakes, scams, and AI hallucinations.
The report revealed that over 80% of respondents are worried about the use of AI by those under 18 years due to these risks.
