Qualcomm launches new AI-capable SoCs for budget, mid-range smartphones
While Qualcomm's Snapdragon 600 and 400 series have become the go-to processors for several budget and mid-range smartphones, Qualcomm has announced three new chipsets - Snapdragon 632, 439, and 429 - aimed at future budget and mid-range smartphones. Qualcomm claims that these new chipsets have better performance and graphics, give more battery life, and have artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. Here's more.
The Snapdragon 632 gives 40% more performance that its predecessor
The most powerful among the three, the Snapdragon 632 comes with a Kyro 250 processor coupled with an Adreno 506 GPU, and gives 40% more performance than its predecessor. The AI-capable chipset supports display resolutions up to fullHD+, can capture 4K video, play mainstream games, and can be equipped with a single 24MP camera or a dual camera setup with 13MP sensors each.
The Snapdragon 439 offers impressive features for budget phones
While the Snapdragon 632 is meant for mid-range phones, Qualcomm's new 400 series releases are aimed at budget smartphones. The AI-capable Snapdragon 439 is 25% more powerful and efficient than its predecessor, and comes with an octa-core CPU coupled with an Adreno 505 GPU. It supports a 21MP single camera, dual 8MP cameras, and supports fullHD+ display.
Despite being a budget chipset, Snapdragon 429 offers AI capabilities
The least powerful of the lot, the Snapdragon 429, also offers a 25% improvement in performance over its predecessor. It also supports dual 8MP cameras, but only a single 16MP camera. Notably, despite being a budget chipset, the 429 offers AI capabilities in camera, voice, and security features. However, the 429 doesn't support fullHD+ resolutions, and draws the line at HD+.
