India's efforts toward self-reliance in semiconductor manufacturing
In December 2021, India launched the Indian Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and announced a ₹76,000 crore chip incentive scheme. The government also offered a 50% subsidy on capital expenditure for setting up plants. This initiative has attracted several tech giants including Micron, Tata-PSMC, CG Power, and Kaynes to establish chip units in the country. These measures underscore India's commitment to becoming self-sufficient in semiconductor production.
