PlayStation Network down: PS5, PS4 users experiencing major outage
Sony's PlayStation Network (PSN) faced a major hiccup on Monday night, causing a gaming service blackout for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 users. The official PSN Service Status page confirmed the problem, saying it impacted all platforms, including "Other, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PS5, Web." The latest update at 9:21pm ET warned users about possible issues in launching games or apps because of this network disruption.
Error messages and login issues plague PlayStation users
During the outage, trying to launch a game led to an error message: "PS5 error Code WS-116522-7." According to Sony's related webpage, this was because of a hiccup in the system software update. Plus, players couldn't sign in or enjoy multiplayer games. Even single-player games that needed an online connection for the initial sign-in were caught up in this network mess.
No estimated time for PlayStation Network restoration
So far, Sony hasn't spilled the beans on what caused the PlayStation Network outage or when it might be fixed. They're on it, trying to sort the issue as fast as they can, and they're asking users to hang tight for a bit. By the way, this network hiccup doesn't seem to be linked to a recent bug that messed with home screen artwork for PS5 games, which got sorted out earlier today.
