    What's the story

OPPO has launched its first-ever smartwatch, the OPPO Watch, in China. The wearable comes with an Apple Watch-like design while offering features such as AMOLED screen, eSIM support, sleep tracking, and heart-rate monitoring.

But how does it compare to its design inspiration, the Apple Watch Series 5, which continues to be the best smartwatch money can but today?

    Let's find out.

    At a glance

OPPO Watch vs Apple Watch Series 5: Design

The Apple Watch Series 5, offered in 40mm and 44mm sizes, can be picked up in aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and ceramic cases. As for design, it offers a squarish form-factor with slim bezels and rounded corners.

The OPPO Watch comes in 41mm (aluminum) and 46mm (aluminum or stainless steel) variants and features an Apple Watch-like design with curved screen edges.

    Screen

OPPO Watch vs Apple Watch Series 5: Display

The OPPO Watch 41mm model has a 1.6-inch AMOLED display with 320x360 pixels resolution, whereas the 46mm variant has a larger 1.91-inch screen with 402x476 pixels resolution.

The Apple Watch Series 5 also sports an AMOLED screen, offering a resolution of 368x448 pixels on the 44mm model and 324x394 pixels on the 40mm variant.

Further, both smartwatches are water-resistant up to 50m.

    Highlights

    Fitness-related features and compatibility

The OPPO Watch supports sleep tracking, heart rate monitoring, and can track a range of workouts. It works on a custom version of Wear OS and is only compatible with Android phones, at least as of now.

The Apple Watch, compatible with iOS, supports a host of fitness features and as an upper hand with life-saving Fall Detection and ECG features.

    Specs

    Internals and battery life

The OPPO Watch is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2500 chipset, paired with an Apollo co-processor, 1GB RAM, and 8GB of storage. Under the hood, it comes with an eSIM and packs 430mAh of battery (300mAh on 41mm model).

The Watch Series 5 model comes with an upgraded S5 chipset, a W3 wireless connectivity chip, 32GB of built-in storage, and all-day battery life.

    Information

    Pricing: The key factor

In India, the Apple Watch Series 5 starts at Rs. 40,900 for the base-end 40mm GPS-only model. The OPPO Watch is currently only available in China, and it starts at CNY 1,499 (roughly Rs. 15,000).

    Our verdict

    How do things stack up?

While both smartwatches are great in their own right, making the choice is fairly simple. If you are an Android user, buy OPPO Watch, considering Apple Watch doesn't support Android. If you have an iPhone, you can get the Watch Series 5.

However, going by just the features and overall performance, the Apple Watch Series 5 is a more complete option to consider.
