Here, we compare the basic variants of both the smartphones.
Design
At a glance
In terms of design, OPPO Realme 1 is a clear winner. The phone gets a premium looking textured glass back and an edge-to-edge display with minimal bezels.
With the Redmi Y2, you get a polycarbonate body with a metallic paint job while you have prominent bezels on the top, bottom, and even on the sides - a design of the past.
Display
All about the screen
The Redmi Y2 gets a 5.99-inch HD+ (1440x720 pixels) IPS LCD display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 and a pixel density of around 269ppi.
Realme 1 features a 6-inch full-HD+ (2160x1080 pixels) IPS LCD display with a pixel density of 402ppi and an aspect ratio of 18:9.
Clearly, the Realme 1 offers a much crisper display and outperforms its competitor.
Primary Camera
For the shutterbugs
The Redmi Y2 features a dual rear camera setup comprising a 12-MP primary sensor with an f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and a 5MP secondary sensor.
The OPPO contender gets a single 13 MP primary sensor with an f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and AI-powered enhancements.
Here, Realme 1 does a good job but the Redmi Y2 has an advantage, thanks to the dual lens setup.

For the love of selfies
The Realme 1 gets an 8MP selfie camera with AI beautification features. OPPO claims that the phone can recognize around 296 facial points which helps add details to the photos.
The Redmi Y2 gets a 16MP front camera with integrated AI and a selfie flash.
While the Realme 1 clicks portraits with software-based bokeh effect, the Redmi Y2 does it a little better.
Internals
All the important stuff
The Redmi Y2 is powered by an octa-core 2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, an Adreno 506 GPU, 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage (expandable).
Realme 1 is powered by octa-core 2GHz MediaTek Helio P60 (MT6771) processor with ARM Mali-G72 MP3 GPU, up to 6GB RAM and up to 128GB storage (expandable).
Both are at par with one another and hence a tie.
Sensors & Software
Lifeblood of your smartphone
In terms of onboard sensors, both the phones include standard sensors like an accelerometer and proximity sensor, among others.
Notably, Realme 1 lacks a fingerprint sensor and relies on face unlock whereas Redmi Y2 gets a rear-mounted fingerprint reader.
Realme 1 runs Android Oreo-based ColorOS 5.0 while Redmi Y2 runs Android Oreo-based MIUI 9.
It's rather a personal choice here.
Battery & Connectivity
Staying connected
In terms of connectivity, both the smartphones support 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/c, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and dual SIM support.
Moreover, the Realme 1 packs a 3,410mAh battery with AI battery management feature while the Redmi Y2 gets a 3,080mAh battery.
Here, the Realme 1 is a clear winner, thanks to its bigger and more efficient battery.
Our result
How things stack up
It is a no-brainer. The Realme 1 offers great value for the price. The phone has a premium design, better display, a bigger battery, decent cameras.
On the other hand, Redmi Y2, as a camera-centric phone, surely has an edge in terms of photography but it misses out on other key parameters.
Hence, Realme 1 is the real budget-segment king.
