OPPO and Vivo could soon launch smartphones with 10GB RAM
If you think 8GB RAM on a mobile is the latest fad, how about 10GB RAM? Yes, we may soon see smartphones with 10GB RAM and that too in 2018 itself. According to reports, OPPO and Vivo are working to launch new flagship smartphones that are tipped to feature up to 10GB of RAM. Here's what we know about these smartphones.
Everything we know about the upcoming OPPO flagship
Back in its home turf, OPPO is teasing its latest R-series smartphone, the R17, at several company-sponsored events. This suggests the phone is in the works and could be announced anytime soon. Notably, a Chinese tipster has said that the R17 will sport 10GB of RAM. But will it happen considering the recently launched OPPO Find X had only 8GB RAM?
Vivo is also reportedly working on a 10GB RAM phone
Rumors suggest the successor to the Vivo Xplay6, dubbed as Xplay7, will come with 10GB of RAM. Moreover, the Vivo flagship is expected to feature 4K OLED display with a 92.9% screen-to-body ratio - more than the Vivo Nex's 91.24%. Further, the Vivo Xplay7 is expected to come with 256GB/512GB of storage and will be launched at around $500 (approx Rs. 31,800).
#JustAThought: Do we really need 10GB of RAM?
Well, a RAM is essentially useful to run multiple apps and play the latest games (because mobile GPUs don't have their stand-alone VRAM and use system's memory). But frankly, we don't need this much RAM unless you write codes and test apps (or simply want to show-off free RAM on your smartphone). 10GB RAM definitely is a marketing gimmick than really a necessity.
For comparison, the most powerful iPhone has just 3GB RAM
Picture this: Some of the top Andoird phones come with 6GB/8GB of RAM and Apple's most-powerful smartphone, the $1000 iPhone X, comes with just 3GB of RAM. Hence, it is really not about how much RAM we have, but how fast our processor can perform.
