OpenAI signs licensing deal with American magazine giant Dotdash Meredith
OpenAI, a leading entity in the artificial intelligence industry, has entered into a licensing agreement with publishing giant Dotdash Meredith. The American publisher is behind popular magazines such as People, Better Homes & Gardens, Investopedia, Food & Wine, and InStyle. The deal, finalized on Tuesday, permits OpenAI to use AI models for Dotdash Meredith's ad-targeting tool, D/Cipher. In return, Dotdash Meredith will supply content for ChatGPT, an AI chatbot developed by OpenAI.
Collaboration to enhance AI features and ad-targeting
The collaboration between OpenAI and Dotdash Meredith will enable the integration of content from various publications into ChatGPT. This includes linking articles within the chatbot and using these articles to train AI models. Additionally, both parties will jointly develop new AI features for magazine readers. Dotdash Meredith plans to leverage OpenAI's models to enhance D/Cipher, a tool that helps advertisers identify potential consumers based on their content consumption habits.
OpenAI's models to boost D/Cipher's targeting capabilities
The publisher aims to significantly improve D/Cipher's targeting capabilities with OpenAI's models, especially as the industry moves toward a world without cookies. The objective is to make the ad product more detailed and sophisticated. Dotdash Meredith CEO, Neil Vogel, stated in a press release: "We have not been shy about the fact that AI platforms should pay publishers for their content and that content must be appropriately attributed."
