OpenAI 'Operator' now available in India—How to use AI agent
What's the story
OpenAI has announced the expansion of its artificial intelligence (AI) agent, Operator, to a number of countries.
The service is now available to ChatGPT Pro subscribers in Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and the UK.
However, it still remains unavailable in the European Union (EU), Switzerland, Norway Liechtenstein and Iceland.
It was initially launched in January 2025 within the US market only.
Functionality
Operator's capabilities and usage
Essentially, Operator is a versatile AI agent capable of performing a wide range of tasks for users.
From booking tickets and reserving tables at restaurants to filing expense reports or shopping on e-commerce platforms, the tool can do it all.
At present, it is only available for subscribers of the $200-per-month ChatGPT Pro plan and can be accessed through a dedicated webpage.
OpenAI plans to integrate Operator with all ChatGPT clients in the future.
Market competition
Operator's competitive landscape
The AI agent market is quite competitive with the likes of Google, Anthropic and Rabbit working on similar tools.
Google's project is still on a waitlist, while Anthropic offers access to its agentic interface through an API.
Meanwhile, Rabbit's action model is only available for users who own its device.
Despite the competition, OpenAI continues to expand the reach of Operator in different countries.
