#LeakPeek: OnePlus 8 Lite could launch as OnePlus Z
OnePlus' upcoming low-cost handset, which has been so far referred to as OnePlus 8 Lite, could instead launch as OnePlus Z. According to reliable tipster Max Weinbach, the OnePlus Z will retain the hardware and design of the "Lite" model we saw back in December. Notably, this will be the company's first mid-range offering since the OnePlus X that came out in 2015.
OnePlus Z will be an entirely new series of smartphones
As per the tip-off by Weinbach, the upcoming OnePlus Z will not be a one-off product. Instead, the Shenzhen-based tech giant will introduce it under a new affordable series that will be repopulated once or twice a year like the flagship range.
How will OnePlus Z look like?
Given OnePlus Z will retain the design of OnePlus 8 Lite, it will sport a flat display with a center-aligned punch-hole setup for the front-facing camera. On the rear, it will house a triple-lens camera setup. The handset will also bear a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with an integrated in-screen fingerprint reader. There's also a possibility that the screen might support a 90Hz refresh rate.
It could be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1000 processor
Speculations are rife that OnePlus Z could be powered by a mid-range MediaTek Dimensity 1000 processor, possibly with 6GB/8GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of storage. It is also likely to support fast charging via a Type-C port. Finally, in the camera department, the handset said to include a 48MP main sensor, a 16MP secondary lens, and another 12MP sensor.
It could be priced at around $500
According to an earlier tip-off by Ishan Agarwal, the OnePlus mid-ranger could cost as low as £400 (~$500) in the UK. Hence, by that metric, the upcoming OnePlus Z should launch in India at around Rs. 30,000.
