OnePlus TV v/s Motorola TV: Which one should you buy?
OnePlus has forayed into the fast-evolving television segment by launching its first-ever model, the OnePlus TV. The flagship offering comes with a 4K QLED screen, powerful speakers, a custom Android TV OS, and all the latest connectivity options. Evidently, it goes up against some of the more affordable 4K televisions like the Motorola TV that went official recently. So, here's how the two compare.
A little about the models used in this comparison
For this comparison, we have selected the 55-inch Motorola TV. However, the range offers six models starting from a 32-inch HD Ready to a 4K 65-inch model. Similarly, the OnePlus TV comes in 55-inch Q1 and Q1 Pro models and we've chosen the former here.
OnePlus TV v/s Motorola TV: All about the screen
The OnePlus TV features a 55-inch 4K HDR10+ QLED display (95.7% screen-to-body ratio) with Dolby Vision and a Gamma Color Magic processor that offers industry-leading color representation (DCI-P3: 96%, NTSC: 120%). In comparison, the 55-inch Motorola TV offers 4K resolution, HDR10, Dolby Vision, and a proprietary autotuneX display technology that is touted to improve the viewing experience. Winner: OnePlus TV for its superior display.
Highs, Mids, and Lows
The OnePlus TV Q1 packs four speakers in a 2.1 channel configuration to offer a total sound output of 50W. The speakers also get support for Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS-HD audio. The Motorola TV comes with 30W front-firing speakers with DTS Tru Sound support as well as Dolby Audio. Winner: OnePlus TV for packing more powerful speakers.
Under the hood
The Motorola TV is powered by an octa-core chipset, Mali 450 GPU, 2.25 GB RAM, 16 GB storage, and Android TV 9 which offers access to Google Assistant, Chromecast, and Play Store. Meanwhile, the OnePlus TV runs a custom version of Android TV and offers seamless connectivity with smartphones via OnePlus Connect app. Winner: You decide.
Pricing: The key factor
The OnePlus TV Q1 model is priced at Rs. 69,900 while the Q1 Pro variant will cost you Rs. 99,900. On the other hand, the Motorola TV 55-inch model comes at Rs. 39,999.
How things stack up?
The OnePlus TV is a premium offering with a high-quality display, powerful speakers, as well as a seamless smartphone-connected user interface. However, given the Rs. 30,000 price difference with the Motorola TV, it looks like a pass to us. After all, Motorola's contender checks all the important points: a good 4K screen, 30W solid audio, and pure Android TV 9 support. Winner: Motorola TV.
