OnePlus Pay NFC-based mobile payments service finally goes official
OnePlus has finally launched its mobile payments service, joining the elite club of smartphone makers that also dabble in financial solutions. Dubbed OnePlus Pay, the digital wallet and mobile payments solution was teased in September last year and is now live in China. However, the NFC-based service is currently being rolled out in a phased manner and for select devices only. Here's more.
About OnePlus Pay
OnePlus Pay is similar to something like Samsung Pay or Apple Pay. It is a single-touch mobile payment and digital wallet service that is aimed at replacing physical credit and debit cards. It allows you to make online payments and offline purchases, eliminating the need to share information with the merchant or entering all the card numbers and other details for making payments.
It can be accessed from within OnePlus Wallet app
OnePlus Pay, currently exclusive to HydrogenOS (Chinese version of OxygenOS), can be accessed from within the OnePlus Wallet app. At present, it supports a few banking cards including Guangfa Bank, Minsheng Bank, and SPDB. To make payments using NFC, users will have to set OnePlus Pay as the default payments app. Moreover, it can also be quickly triggered by double-pressing the power button.
The service is currently available for OnePlus 7T, 7T Pro
At present, OnePlus Pay is exclusive to the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro models only. However, the service is likely to be expanded to other handsets as well, such as the OnePlus 7 series, OnePlus 6 series, and some older models that support NFC.
OnePlus Pay will launch in India this year
Last year, OnePlus announced that it will launch OnePlus Pay in India in 2020. Perhaps, the service could go live sometime next month alongside the OnePlus 8 series. Moreover, it remains to be seen as to what advantages OnePlus Pay might offer in the country to attract users that are already hooked to platforms such as Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe, and Amazon Pay.
