Win 5G device, paid Shenzhen trip in new OnePlus contest
With a series of 5G announcements at Mobile World Congress, we can finally say that the wave of next-generation connectivity has officially begun. Most phone-makers (from Samsung to Huawei) have announced phones supporting 5G, but OnePlus, the sister company of OPPO, is taking a different approach. The company has announced a new 'Apps of Tomorrow' contest calling developers to build apps leveraging 5G.
Apps to leverage power of 5G
As of now, most companies are focusing on the hardware aspect of 5G, but hardware won't be of any use unless we have good enough apps to leverage their capabilities. This is why OnePlus' CEO Pete Lau has launched the new initiative, where developers would have to imagine innovative ideas for apps that could use the power and speed of 5G for different purposes.
Submit your idea before March 26
As part of the contest, announced in association with Qualcomm and British telecom giant EE, app creators and developers would have to pitch the idea for their 5G app of tomorrow before March 26. They will have to submit a video explaining the app and how 5G would take it to a whole new level. Following this, OnePlus's 'global tech leaders' will shortlist finalists.
Then, 5 winners will be shortlisted
In the final round, votes from experts and OnePlus community will decide the 5 winners of the contest. These winners will get a paid-for trip to Shenzhen to visit OnePlus HQ and spend time with Lau. Plus, they will also get a 5G OnePlus device, access to 5G testing labs and a year of financial support to bring their idea to life.
Runner-ups will also get OnePlus device
It is worth noting that the 15 runner-ups who won't make into the winners' list will also get a device from OnePlus. However, it is still not clear if this one would have 5G capabilities.
How to take part in this contest?
To take part in the contest, visit OnePlus.com/5G and fill an application form with a video detailing the idea. In the clip, explain the idea in complete detail as well as how 5G and OnePlus's support will be critical to it. After this, OnePlus leaders will judge the ideas on the basis of their business value, creativity, and development capability to announce 20 finalists.
