OnePlus 7 won't offer wireless charging, confirms CEO Pete Lau
According to a couple of early leaks, the upcoming OnePlus 7 looks primed to be a major upgrade over the OnePlus 6T with a new design, latest processor and improved cameras. However, one thing it won't have is wireless charging - a feature that has become a mainstay on modern flagships. Here's more on this development.
Wireless charging is still inferior to OnePlus's wired charging: Lau
Speaking to CNET, CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that OnePlus 7 won't come with wireless charging. He said that "wireless is far inferior" to OnePlus's wired charging which can charge the phone to 100% in an hour. CNET also reported that OnePlus is "working on accelerating the delivery of wireless power, but still hasn't figured out how to do it without too much heat."
And, here's how OnePlus 7 may look like
Over the past few weeks, we have seen a couple of OnePlus 7 leaks, both underscoring a new, notch-less, all-screen design. As per the leaks, it is certain that OnePlus will either house the front camera in a motorized pop-up module or it will adopt a sliding mechanism. That said, the rear side of OnePlus 7 remains unseen as of now.
OnePlus 7 specsheet: Everything we expect
We expect OnePlus 7 to run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, paired with upto 10GB RAM and upto 256GB storage. Moreover, the slider front camera might come paired with an IR sensor to offer more secure face unlock. We can also expect to see 30W Speed Warp fast charging that debuted with OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition and possibly, a triple rear-camera setup.
Pricing and availability
OnePlus usually launches two flagship devices - one around May-June and another "T" upgrade around October-November. Hence, we can expect to see OnePlus 7 sometime in Q2 2019. Further, the company is also working to launch a 5G-ready flagship in Europe by early 2019. As far as OnePlus 7's pricing is concerned, we might see an uptick of $50-$100 over OnePlus 6T's price tag.
