#Review: OnePlus 7 Pro raises the bar for Apple, Samsung
If you wanted a phone with a perfect screen, top-end performance, great build quality, and solid camera, you would have gone for $1,000 worth device from Apple or Samsung. Not anymore. With the OnePlus 7 Pro, the company has raised the bar by offering true flagship features at hundreds of dollars less. OnePlus has once again shown the mirror, and we can't be happier.
OnePlus 7 Pro offers a premium all-screen design
The OnePlus 7 Pro offers a notch-less, bezel-less all-screen design achieved by adopting a pop-up selfie camera. This means, your videos and game graphics won't be hampered by display holes or cut-outs. Further, the curved edges allow for better ergonomics while a metal-glass sandwiched body provides sturdiness and premium feel. Interestingly, the phone has also passed JerryRigEverything's durability check and Dave Lee's underwater test.
All about the screen
The pop-up selfie camera has allowed OnePlus to stretch the display from edge-to-edge with no interruptions whatsoever. The result is a stunningly immersive 6.67-inch screen of the highest quality. The HDR10+ compatible display offers a QHD+ (1440x3120 pixels) resolution which makes texts and images crispier and vivid while the 90Hz refresh rate makes everything fluid and seamlessly smooth. It is surely the marquee feature.
Tackling trade-offs, the OnePlus way
Adopting a pop-up selfie camera for a full-screen design comes with a trade-off - the ever-so-fast face unlock is now arguably slower. But OnePlus has tackled the compromise rather well. The optical in-display fingerprint sensor is now larger which allows unlocking the phone in just 0.21 seconds. In fact, it is upto 64% faster than OnePlus 6T, according to OnePlus's claims.
For the shutterbugs and selfie lovers
The camera is one department where OnePlus phones have trailed the top-tier competitors. However, the OnePlus 7 Pro bridges that gap pretty well. The multi Autofocus (PDAF+LAF+CAF) triple-lens rear camera comprises a 48MP (f/1.7, OIS) main lens, an 8MP (f/2.4, OIS) telephoto lens which offers 3x optical zoom, and a 16MP (f/2.2) wide-angle lens. Up front, there's a good 16MP (f/2.0) selfie snapper.
OnePlus 7 Pro: The fastest smartphone money can buy today
OnePlus 7 Pro is very, very fast. It is a spec monster. Under the hood, you get the flagship Snapdragon 855 chipset, paired with upto 12GB RAM and upto 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. In fact, it is the only phone available in the market with this new storage technology, offering upto 79% faster read-and-write speeds as compared to existing UFS 2.0 storage format.
OnePlus 7 Pro easily offers a full-day battery life
With a power-hungry display comes a bigger battery. In fact, at 4,000mAh, the OnePlus 7 Pro packs the biggest battery ever in a OnePlus phone. And while OnePlus has cut corners by not offering the ease of wireless charging, one wouldn't really require charging more than once a day because, with 30W Warp Charge support, you get a day's power in just 20 minutes.
OnePlus 7 Pro will serve all your gaming needs
As mobile gaming continues to gain more popularity, it is only fair that your premium-looking flagship phone can handle all sorts of gaming needs. And on this front, OnePlus 7 Pro misses out on nothing. There is a new gaming mode with RAM Boost features, improved DND mode, a dedicated liquid-cooling system, and dual speakers with Dolby Atmos support for better sound.
OnePlus 7 Pro is, in fact, very well priced
In the case of OnePlus 7 Pro, the company has made a few compromises (wireless charging, IP rating, headphone jack), but they can't hurt. In India, the phone starts at Rs. 48,999 for the 6GB/128GB model and goes upto Rs. 57,999 for the 12GB/256 variant. And for all the top-of-the-line specs and features, I think it is remarkably well priced.
The ball is now in Apple and Samsung's court
When you compare OnePlus 7 Pro with the $1,000 worth devices like Galaxy S10 or iPhone Xs, the pricing is certainly more legitimate. The screen is amazing, the design is second to none, cameras are respectable (better than ever), the performance is unmatchable, and the software is clean and fast. Hence, there's no real reason to not buy the OnePlus 7 Pro.
