OnePlus 6 will support wireless charging. Reason? Its glass back
In more ways than one, the 2018 OnePlus flagship will be a significant upgrade over its predecessor. By now, we all know that OnePlus 6 will embrace the on-trend notch and pack top-end internals. With the fact that OnePlus has favored a glass back over metal back for its upcoming smartphone, it's a foregone conclusion that OnePlus 6 will feature wireless charging. Here's more.
OnePlus departs from a metal back to overcome wireless-charging limitations
A glass back is similar to a notch - it helps overcome limitation but with a trade-off. A notch gives more screen real estate in return for an unaesthetic design while a glass back allows for wireless charging but isn't as sturdy as a metal back. And we all know, OnePlus has always preferred a metal back on its smartphones. But only until now.
OnePlus 6: The company's first phone to feature wireless charging
Last year, ahead of OnePlus 5T launch, CEO Pete Lau noted that "wireless charging came with more limitations than freedom" such as positioning the phone accurately on a charging pad or inability to use it while charging. "We'll consider adopting the wireless charging technology when the time is right," he had said. Finally, OnePlus 6 will feature a glass back and, support wireless charging.
Lets talk about the OnePlus 6 glass back
"The advantages of glass over metal are manifold: glass communicates a transparent, bright, and pure feeling...the OnePlus design team tested over 70 glass prototypes before selecting the best one," the company said in a note. Moreover, "the phone has five layers of Nanotech Coating instead of three," which will offer a stronger impression of depth and will be a first in the smartphone industry.
What else is expected out of the phone
OnePlus 6 will reportedly sport a 6.2-inch Full HD+ display with 90% screen-to-body ratio, an aspect ratio of 19:9, 16MP + 20MP dual-rear cameras, a 20MP front camera, and a 3,450mAh battery. It will feature three variants with expected pairings of 6GB RAM/64GB, 8GB RAM/128GB, and 12GB RAM/256GB. It will run Android Oreo-based Oxygen 5.1 OS and be powered by a Snapdragon 845 processor.
OnePlus 6 will launch in India on May 17
The company's much-awaited flagship will launch in India on May 17 (3 pm IST) at an official event in Mumbai. OnePlus will start selling launch event entry vouchers to the general public from May 8 for Rs. 999. The phone will exclusively start selling on Amazon at 12 pm IST on May 21 only for Prime members.
