Ola to transition workload from Microsoft's Azure to Krutrim Cloud
Ola has announced plans to shift its entire workload from Microsoft's Azure cloud platform to its own Krutrim Cloud, within the next week. The decision was revealed by Ola founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal in a company blog post. This move comes after Aggarwal criticized LinkedIn, a Microsoft-owned platform, for removing his post on pronoun usage, earlier this week.
Aggarwal's conflict with LinkedIn sparks decision
The conflict began when LinkedIn's AI used the pronoun "they" instead of "he" for Aggarwal, leading him to question the AI's neutrality. He accused the platform of pushing a political agenda and expressed concerns about western Big Tech monopolies governing Indian lives. In response to the LinkedIn incident, Aggarwal has extended an offer of a full year of free cloud usage on Krutrim to any developer wishing to transition from Azure.
Free cloud usage to developers leaving Azure
Aggarwal said, "Any other developer who wants to move out of Azure, we will offer a full year worth of free cloud usage. As long as you don't go back to Azure after that! Mail us on exitazure@olakrutrim.com. Offer is perpetually open."
Calls for indigenous technology development
Aggarwal has been a vocal advocate for the development of indigenous technology. He plans to collaborate with the Indian developer community, to build a digital public infrastructure (DPI) social media framework. Aggarwal believes that data should be owned by creators rather than corporates who profit from it, emphasizing the need for India to develop its own tech and AI.
