Nubia Z40 Pro, with flagship camera and magnetic charging, launched
Nubia has launched the Z40 Pro model as its most advanced smartphone yet. The phone also dwarfs some of the latest Android flagships. It is the world's first phone to come with a Sony IMX787 sensor with 35mm equivalent lens. The Gravity Edition of the Z40 Pro is the first Android device to boast magnetic wireless charging - similar to Apple's MagSafe technology.
Why does this story matter?
Nubia, the sub-brand of ZTE, has launched the Z40 Pro as its first flagship smartphone of 2022. It is a successor to the Nubia Z30 Pro which was launched last year. The Nubia Z40 Pro is packed with cutting-edge technology. It takes on Samsung's S22 series and Xiaomi 12 series with a top-tier processor, a 144Hz screen, and up to 80W fast-charging.
It sports a curved AMOLED screen
Front on, the Nubia Z40 Pro resembles the Samsung S22 Ultra and Google Pixel 6 Pro with a centered punch-hole cut-out, ultra-slim bezels, curved edges, and an in-display fingerprint scanner. The rear side gets a massive camera bump. The handset has a 6.67-inch Full-HD+ (1080x2400 pixels) AMOLED screen with a 144Hz refresh rate, a 360Hz touch sampling rate, and 10-bit color support.
There are three lenses on the back
The Nubia Z40 Pro features a triple rear camera setup including a 64MP (f/1.6) Sony IMX787 main sensor having a size of 1/1.3-inch, a 7P lens, and OIS support. This flagship sensor is supported by a 50MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide lens and an 8MP (f/3.4) periscope telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. Up front, the phone has a single 16MP (f/2.5) selfie snapper.
The device provides up to 1TB of onboard storage
The Nubia Z40 Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage. It runs on Android 12-based MyOS 12. The regular model packs a 5,000mAh battery with 80W wired fast-charging, whereas the Gravity Edition gets a 4,600mAh with 65W wired and 15W magnetic wireless charging.
