Red Magic 3 might be the best gaming smartphone yet
As the successor to its Red Magic 2 gaming smartphones, ZTE-owned Nubia has launched the Red Magic 3 in China. The phone retains the design of its predecessor while offering top-end features including a full-HD+ AMOLED HDR display with 90Hz refresh rate, Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, a 48MP rear camera, and a 5,000mAh battery. Red Magic 3: At a glance
The Red Magic 3 features a conventional display with slim bezels, metal body, vector aesthetics, and a customizable LED strip. There's also a built-in cooling fan as well as air vents on the rear and side for improved thermal management. Further, the phone features a 6.65-inch AMOLED HDR display with a full-HD+ resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, and DC Dimming for a flicker-free experience.
For photographers turned gamers or vice versa
Red Magic 3 offers a single 48MP (f/1.7) Sony IMX586 camera while on the front, there is a 16MP (f/2.0) selfie snapper. The phone is also touted to support 8K video recording and 1,920 fps super slo-mo videos.
Under the hood
Red Magic 3 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, paired with upto 12GB of RAM and upto 256GB of storage. Under the hood, the phone packs a 5,000mAh battery with 27W fast charging support and runs Android Pie-based RedMagic OS 2.0. Further, it has stereo speakers with DTS 7.1 surround-sound, three microphones, 4D haptic motor, and Red Magic triggers for gaming.
The phone also supports 5G connectivity via a mod
Nubia has also announced that Red Magic 3 will support 5G network via a mod. Moreover, there is also an add-on dock which brings LAN port along with an additional headphone jack and USB Type-C port. Lastly, the standard connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac (2.4Ghz/5GHz), NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, headphone jack, GPS, and a USB Type-C port.
Pricing and availability
The Red Magic 3 starts at 2,899 yuan (Rs. 30,000) for the base-end 6GB/64GB. The mid-end 6GB/128GB model costs CNY 3,199 (Rs. 33,000) while the 8GB/128GB costs 3,499 yuan (Rs. 36,000). The top-end 12GB/256GB variant is priced at 4,299 yuan (Rs. 44,500). The phone is currently available for pre-orders and will go on sale through Red Magic website and JD.com from May 3.
