Now, you can watch YouTube videos while browsing: Details here
YouTube is rolling out a new Miniplayer, one that gives web users an option to keep watching videos while browsing on the platform. The feature, which went into testing earlier this year, was initially restricted to a select few users but now it is available widely, including to YouTube users in India. Here's how you can use it.
The Miniplayer and its dedicated button
When YouTube started testing picture-in-picture playback, the feature could only be triggered by moving away from the playing video. But now, there's a dedicated Miniplayer button at the bottom right section of the YouTube player, right next to the fullscreen and theater button. Once it is accessed, the video in question, whether played or paused, switches to a smaller window in the same state.
What can you do on the Miniplayer?
The Miniplayer appears at the bottom right corner of YouTube, displaying the title of the video and its publisher. Next, you can either keep browsing or hover over the Miniplayer to play/pause or move over to the next video. If you're on a playlist, there's also an inverted V button that can be used to see upcoming video and jump directly to it.
Switch back to full screen mode
In order to return back to the default or theater mode, users will have to click anywhere on the minimized window. The Miniplayer even offers small set of viewer options via right click.
Other things you should know
YouTube has given a dedicated 'x' button to close any video playing on the Miniplayer. Also, there are added controls to repeat and shuffle music. When the player is minimized, YouTube navigates the user to the last visited page, like playlist or search results, to continue browsing. And, if the video was opened directly, the player would take the user to the homepage.
