Now, you can shop from Instagram videos: See how
In a fresh move directed at social commerce, Instagram is rolling out three features, including an option to buy products directly from videos, The Verge reported. The platform already had the option to shop from photos on the feed and the latest upgrade just makes the experience better. It is also adding an option to save products into a dedicated 'shopping collection'. Here's more.
How to buy from videos?
Just like shoppable photo/story tags, you'll see clickable links to products seen in videos posted by businesses on Instagram. A single tap will redirect you to their website, letting you buy the product in question. However, only select videos will have shopping tags because the feature is still pretty new and not all brands have opted for a business profile to sell.
Also, you can now save products to shop later
The second feature revolves around saving products, much more like a wishlist on an e-commerce app or website. Whenever you're looking at a shoppable product in a photo or video, you can save that post by tapping the 'bookmark' icon. This will save it into a dedicated 'shopping collection' in the saved posts section. Here, all your products will be neatly queued for browsing/purchasing.
Buy from 'Shop' tab on brand profiles
The third feature isn't a big one but can prove handy if you're looking to shop from a particular brand on Instagram. Essentially, when you visit the profile of a business, you'll see a separate 'Shop' button, which will give access to all the products listed by them. This way, you won't have to scroll through a mix of posts to find shoppable items.
Instagram's growing focus on e-commerce
The latest round of shopping-focused features shows Instagram is looking to refine how users can browse and shop from the platform. Not to mention, the time of this roll-out matches with the shopping season in US, something that further hints Instagram's growing ambition in the field. Even Snapchat, Instagram's direct competitor, is also moving in the same direction, thanks to its partnership with Amazon.
