Now, enjoy web page-like interaction right inside Gmail: Here's how
With the impending departure of Inbox email service, Google is doing everything it can to overhaul the standard version of Gmail. The company recently introduced a major design change into the app, and now, as part of the same effort, it's rolling out a tech that would let you interact with emails just like you do with regular web pages. Here's all about it.
Browse products, send replies right through emails
Till date, all hyperlinked emails landing in your inbox redirected to external web pages, where you could shop, browse products or access a received message. But now, Google is bringing its AMP tech, the system powering some of the fastest-loading web pages on the internet, into Gmail. This will let you do everything, from scrolling through products to sending replies, from the email itself.
How this tech could prove useful for you
Though the basic function of Gmail still remains unchanged, the latest capability opens new avenues for users and businesses alike. As a user, for instance, you'd be able to swift through hotel listings, fill out forms, browse suggested catalogs, or issue immediate replies for comments on a Google Doc, among many other things. All of this will save you time as well as effort.
Plus, you will always see latest information
The content of static emails gets outdated with time. However, in this case, it updates like regular web pages, making sure that you are always served with the latest available information, be it a comment thread or job posting.
Meanwhile, businesses can better curate promotional materials
As for businesses, the AMP tech will offer a seamless solution to better curate marketing and transactional materials. An e-commerce company, per se, would be able to deliver a product catalog customized according to your preferences or a list showing only those products that are on sale. Notably, all companies will have to partner with Google to start sending emails in the 'dynamic' format.
As of now, only desktop users would see dynamic emails
Starting yesterday, people using Gmail's desktop version were able to browse dynamic emails. The search giant had been testing the feature for about one year to prepare it for a wider audience. However, it's important to note that other email apps will only show the regular version of emails and there's also no word on when the capability would come to Gmail for mobile.
