    What's the story

In a bid to bolster digital innovation in India, Airtel is teaming up with Google and bringing customer service capabilities into Google Assistant.

The telco has integrated a bunch of customer service responses into Assistant, providing users a viable, voice-activated option to check their account details.

The facility is available for both Airtel postpaid and prepaid customers.

    Here are more details.

    New capabilities

    What Google Assistant could do?

With Airtel integration, any Android or iOS user can call out Google Assistant to check their account details.

Prepaid customers, for instance, can recharge their accounts, check offers, or the balance in their accounts.

Meanwhile, postpaid users can use it to get the details of their bill, data usage, or current plan. Also, they can pay their bills or inquire about other plans.

    Activation steps

How to activate Airtel's Assistant feature?

In order to activate the feature, you'll have to open Google Assistant by long-pressing the home button of your device.

Once the service is running, just say/type "Talk to Airtel", "Ask Airtel", or "Get Airtel".

This will enable Airtel's assistant, which will prompt you to link your number with Google via OTP.

After completing the process, you can go ahead with the inquiry.

Responses limited, but Airtel promises improvement

As of now, Airtel-Assistant integration only resolves a limited set of queries, pretty much like IVR or USSD.

However, the telecom giant has said it will continue to track questions from customers to enhance flexibility and robustness of voice responses.

Not to mention, it will also bring support for multiple regional languages, enabling millions of smartphone users to use the feature.

Here's what Airtel has to say

"As part of our digital transformation journey, this is another innovation to empower our customers. With smartphones fast becoming the norm for every Indian, this will make digital self-care much more interactive and step up the customer experience," Airtel's Customer Experience & Retail Director, said.
