Nothing phone (1) and Nothing OS are arriving this summer
Nothing's CEO Carl Pei has announced that Nothing phone (1), the company's first smartphone, will make its debut in the summer of 2022. At the virtual event, the CEO also confirmed that the brand aims to build an ecosystem that rivals the likes of Apple. As a part of this, it will also introduce a custom user interface called 'Nothing OS' in April.
Why does this story matter?
For those who assumed Nothing was going to be an audio company, its recent virtual event was a wake-up call. In a smartphone world dominated by Android and Apple, the company aims to be a breath of fresh air. It seems that Pei has made it his life's mission to create an ecosystem of technology led by a flagship killer smartphone.
What do we know about the phone so far?
Nothing has revealed nothing about the phone (1) as far as its design and hardware are concerned. However, for a 'flagship killer' 2022 smartphone, it should have a punch-hole design, a high refresh rate AMOLED display, fast-charging support, and multiple cameras on the back. The handset will be powered by a top-tier Snapdragon chipset and should offer support for 5G connectivity.
Nothing OS will be free of bloatware
The Nothing phone (1) will run on a new custom skin based on Android called Nothing OS. It aims to provide a fast and smooth user experience by being free of bloatware and heavy system apps. The interface will have a dot matrix design with unified widgets and icons and changing animations. First-party apps like the voice recorder will sport a minimalist design.
Nothing phone (1) and Nothing OS: Launch timeline
Nothing has announced that the Nothing phone (1) will be introduced sometime in the summer of 2022. It will be sold via Flipkart in India. On the other hand, Nothing OS will be available for select Android smartphones in April this year.
