Samsung Galaxy Note 9: At a glance
The Note 9 retains the design language of its predecessor. However, Samsung has shaved off some millimeters to offer slimmer top and bottom bezels. On the back, the fingerprint sensor has now been repositioned and sits below the camera module. The Galaxy Note 9 features a 6.4-inch QHD+ (1440x2960 pixels) Super AMOLED display with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio and a pixel density of 516ppi.
For the shutterbugs and selfie lovers
The Galaxy Note 9 packs a dual rear-camera setup which we have seen on the Samsung Galaxy S9+, along with AI-based Scene Recognition. So, you get a wide-angle dual pixel 12-megapixel sensor with a variable aperture (f/1.5-f/2.4), coupled with a 12-megapixel (f/2.4) telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom and up to 10x digital zoom. Up front, there's an 8-megapixel camera with an f/1.7 aperture.
Under the hood
The Galaxy Note 9 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 process (US variant) or the Exynos 9810 chipset (Global variant), paired with 6GB/8GB RAM and 128GB/512GB internal storage with support for up to 512GB microSD card. Moreover, the phone packs a massive 4,000mAh battery with support for wireless charging and runs Android Oreo-based Samsung Experience.
Connectivity options and sensors onboard the Note 9
Connectivity options on the Note 9 include 4G VoLTE (LTE Cat. 18), dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11a/c (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/A-GPS, NFC, ANT+, USB Type-C, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Sensors on board the phablet include an accelerometer, barometer, gyroscope, RGB light sensor, a geomagnetic sensor, hall sensor, heart rate sensor, proximity sensor Iris sensor, a pressure sensor, and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
About the new powerful S-Pen
Perhaps the biggest innovation is what Samsung has done with the S-Pen. Thanks to a Bluetooth Low Energy module and a supercapacitor, the stylus can act as a remote control for the device. So you can use it for taking photos, switching cameras, giving presentations, skipping music tracks among other functionalities. Notably, like Note 9, the S Pen is also IP68 rated.
Samsung now offers a more functional DeX mode
Samsung has now simplified its DeX experience on Galaxy Note 9 as it comes built into the Note 9. Hence, the DeX mode now gets activated when you connect Note 9 and any monitor via an HDMI cable. So, when you launch an app, Note 9 can double-up as a trackpad and virtual keyboard with the monitor while also functioning as a regular smartphone.
