Microsoft's SwiftKey integration in Windows reveals the future of laptops
Two years after buying the popular keyboard app SwiftKey, Microsoft is finally bringing it to Windows. The tech giant is infusing Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning capabilities in SwiftKey to make it smarter than just being an auto-correct keyboard. And while Microsoft is at it, this move hints at the future of laptops: dual-screen devices with an intelligent keyboard. Here's more.
What is Microsoft doing with SwiftKey?
'Swift intelligence', a feature for the touchscreen keyboard, has been spotted in the Microsoft Insider Build 17692. With this new feature, Microsoft is leveraging AI and ML to make its keyboard learn your writing style for accurate prediction of words and even emojis. The keyboard also gets 'shapewriting' which lets you swipe to type. It currently supports English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Russian.
Microsoft is readying its keyboard for a dual-display device
Given manufacturers are pushing for more screen real-estate, it's evident that the future of smartphones/tablets/laptops will be an all-screen form factor and the physical keyboard will be sacrificed (remember headphone jacks?). Also, the sightings of future machines i.e. dual-screen laptops, having a smarter touchscreen keyboard is just the right start. Further, Microsoft is itself working on a dual-screen device codenamed Andromeda.
