Put finger on your ear, and answer calls: Details here
Smartwatches are impressive, but they're not as sleek as you'd want them to be. All the hardware, including buttons/screens, disrupts the experience of using basic features like making a call or sending texts. But, the good news is, we already have a solution on the way: a screen-less bracelet that looks like a smart-band but does everything you'd expect from a smartwatch. Here's how.
'Get' bracelet for seamless smartwatch and smartband experience
Developed by a company called Deed, the high-tech bracelet goes by the name 'Get' and lets you enjoy all the features of a smartwatch and smartband without actually providing buttons or a screen to interact with. It also pairs with an app on your phone and tracks your fitness parameters while allowing you to make/answer calls, send payments, texts, and more.
If there's no screen or button, how this device works?
The working of this bracelet revolves around three key technologies: gesture control, voice recognition, and bone conduction. You can make specific hand gestures to use basic features like answering/hanging up a call, changing a song or listening to voice messages. Alternatively, gestures can be used to trigger Google Assistant, Siri, or Alexa, all of which can then take commands to control the device's features.
Bone conduction is used for listening stuff
While commands are given through voice assistants and gestures, the response is taken through bone conduction technology. The device decodes sound waves and converts them into vibrations that move from your wrist to fingertips. This allows you to listen to anything you would normally be able to listen to on your phone by simply bringing your finger to your ear.
So, you can listen to calls, voice messages
With this tech, you just have to put your finger near the ear to listen to the person speaking on the other side of a call or to hear an audio message, email notification et al. Notably, you also get haptic vibrations for discreet notifications.
Plus, you get fitness tracking features
Additionally, Get monitors physical activity through biometric tracking and generates data like calories burnt. The device even generates stats to let you know if you should exercise more or less and notifies when it's time to take a break or drink water. Plus, you can use it for sleep tracking, getting haptic notifications for sleeping/waking up on time.
Price starts at Rs. 8,800
Deed is currently raising funds on Kickstarter to mass-produce Get. The pledge for a single unit of the device with its wireless charging base starts at €115, which translates to Rs. 8,800 in India. Shipping is expected to begin in March 2020.
