Apple to launch new AirPods alongside iPhone 16 next month
Apple is reportedly planning to refresh its non-Pro AirPods lineup as part of its fall 2024 hardware releases next month. According to Bloomberg, the tech giant will introduce two versions of the fourth-generation AirPods, alongside the anticipated iPhone 16 series. These will include a budget-friendly model with basic features and a premium version equipped with active noise cancellation (ANC). The design changes are expected to further differentiate these two models.
AirPods 4: Pricing and charging case details
Currently, Apple's entry-level AirPods 2 are priced at $129, while the third-generation model costs $179. These sit below the top-end AirPods Pro model. The upcoming mid-range AirPods 4 are expected to feature wireless charging within their case. A significant change in the new lineup could be the transition from Lightning connector to USB-C for all charging cases across the range.
New features and firmware updates for AirPods Pro
Apple is also developing new firmware for the AirPods Pro, which will introduce head gesture control and enhanced noise isolation. These features could potentially be included in the mid-tier version of the new fourth-generation AirPods. Both revamped models are expected to support Spatial Audio features and offer Apple Watch charging using the case's built-in battery, similar to what is currently available with AirPods 3.
