MTNL Christmas offer: Get unlimited data access for 60 days
Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited, aka MTNL, is celebrating the holiday season with an amazing new offer. The state-owned telco has announced its 'Christmas offer', where people signing up for their service will get unlimited data access. The access will be given for a period 60 days, but you should know some important caveats before rushing for a new connection. Here are the details.
Unlimited data access, but only on 2G or 3G
As part of the offer, all new prepaid customers of MTNL will be getting unlimited data for 60 days. The data offer will be valid in Delhi and Mumbai circles, but the deal is, you won't get 4G speeds. This is because MTNL hasn't introduced 4G in these circles and is still operating on 2G and 3G in the two regions.
What speeds can you expect?
Speed is affected by various factors, including coverage area and the number of active users, but on a typical MTNL connection, the minimum speed is 20 Kbps and 256 Kbps for 3G. However, going by 3G standards, expect average download speed of around 1Mbps.
Also, there's no voice calling bundled
In addition to speed limits, you should also note that you won't get free calling or SMS benefits on getting a new prepaid connection, neither in Delhi nor in Mumbai. There are no charges to activate the data offer, but for calls, you'll still have to pay. The offer is active now and you can avail it for one month, till January 31st, 2019.
Note: Connection to be activated before January 31
So, to avail this offer, make sure you purchase a new prepaid SIM from MTNL and get it activated before January 31st, 2019. After this date, activations won't be considered for the offer.
