BMW Motorrad bikes officially enter the Indian market
German car-maker BMW manufactured Motorrad bikes that were earlier imported by dealers for stores in Mumbai and New Delhi, are now ready to start their own operations in India. Dimitris Raptis, the regional head stated, "We see a tremendous potential in this country and we are pleased to introduce BMW Motorrad as a part of the Indian subsidiary of BMW Group."
Motorrad gears up to deal with rising demand
BMW Motorrad aims to target the Indian market with 200-500cc motorbikes, which are now currently experiencing a growth in demand. A significant growth of 35% in this category has ensured profits to premium brands, although, only 2% of the total motorbike sales account for these high-end bikes. A major competition can be expected from Bajaj Auto which owns 48% stake in KTM bikes.
Motorrad bike price range and operations
Shivapada Roy has been appointed as head of Motorrad India and is currently setting up a team and dealership network for the Indian division. Motorrad is offering a range of bikes on sale via exclusive dealers including R 1200 R, R Nine T, R Nine T Scrambler among other models. Price range on offer would vary from Rs. 15.4 lakh to Rs. 28.5 lakh.
Early expansion and partnership plans to "Make in India"
BMW G310 R and BMW G310 GS of the BMW Motorrad lineup will be manufactured in partnership with India's TVS Motor Co. Ltd for sale in Indian and global markets. All the other BMW Motorrad models are going to be imported and entirely built-up units. BMW Motorrad is looking at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Pune to set up dealerships in their initial phase.
High-end bikes sales are a rage among the youth
Research reveals that biggest buyers of high-end bikes in India are mainly enthusiasts, who take up biking as a leisure activity. Young entrepreneurs coming out of the start-up culture, college students, who belong to affluent families and people with at least Rs. 10 lakh per annum income are now opting for high-end bikes.
India's first electric superbike will be up for sale soon
Emflux Motors is currently developing an electric superbike with a top speed of 170 kmph and 0-100 kmph acceleration in 3.5 seconds. First prototype of it is expected to be finished by June and the finished product will cost Rs. 5 lakh. The bike will be capable of running 200 km on a single charge and will be showcased at 2018 Auto Expo.
