Mi A1 Plus, OnePlus 5 to get Airtel VoLTE support
The Xiaomi Mi A1 Plus and the OnePlus 5, despite being two of the best devices in their respective price ranges, still lack Airtel VoLTE support. Unlike Reliance Jio, Airtel has to separately enable a network patch for VoLTE to get any device on their VoLTE supported list. However, all this will change soon as Airtel is testing VoLTE support for both the phones.
The status of Airtel VoLTE support across regions and devices
As of now, Airtel only has VoLTE support in Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Chattisgarh. The service is currently being tested in other regions like Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Chennai. As far as devices are concerned Airtel offers VoLTE support for only a limited number of devices, that too in the aforementioned serviced regions.
Updates are already being rolled out for the OnePlus 5
Testing includes Airtel getting in touch with a device's manufacturer and giving the manufacturer the required patch to update their phones. Airtel then tests it internally for a week before enabling VoLTE support. However, your SIM should be registered to a VoLTE supported region. As of now, OnePlus 5 has already started receiving the software update, while the Mi A1 Plus waits in queue.
