Xiaomi's MIUI 10 unveiled: Here's everything you need to know
Alongside the launch of its 2018 flagship phone, the Mi 8, Xiaomi also unveiled the latest version of its operating system (OS), the MIUI 10. The company says that its newest version of Android-based MIUI is powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and highlights features as the AI Portrait, among other handy features. Here's more about MIUI 10 and the eligible devices for it.
With AI integration, MIUI 10 gets smarter and more efficient
With MIUI 10's AI Portrait feature, users will be able to take depth-of-field shots without requiring a dual camera setup. This software-based feature uses algorithms to identify the foreground and blur-out the background for a Bokeh effect. Another machine learning-based feature is AI Preload, which reduces load times for apps and native functions by pre-loading the apps based on the user's usage patterns.
Other handy features on the revamped MIUI
MIUI 10 has also introduced Recents widget featuring a new layout which maximizes screen space and supports full-screen gestures, swipe to delete tasks, and long press to get additional options. Moreover, with MIUI 10, Xiaomi will make it simpler for users to control Mi ecosystem devices. You can now control smart home products with just a single tap as against requiring secondary apps for them.
Xiaomi will roll-out MIUI 10 to several of its devices
The closed beta MIUI 10 China Developer ROM is currently available for Mi 8, Mi Mix 2S, Mi Mix 2, Redmi S2, and Redmi Note 5, among others. Notably, the public beta, slated for late-June, will be available for these aforementioned devices. In late July, the public beta will be made available for other Xiaomi smartphones including several Mi and Redmi smartphones.
