#SneakPeek: How will Microsoft's Windows 11 look like
If we look at recent iterations of Windows operating system, Windows 10 has to be the undisputed winner. The OS not just eliminates drawbacks of Windows 8 and older versions but also offers some very handy capabilities. However, just recently, Nick Parker, Microsoft's Corporate VP, detailed the company's vision of a futuristic OS, one that could well be Windows 11. Here's what he said.
Microsoft's 'modern OS' with enablers and delighters
Parker recently shared a blog post giving a rundown of some innovative laptops powered by Windows 10 experiences. But then, he shifted gears to talk about a 'modern' operating system, a platform backed by enablers and delighters. The enablers, he said, would deliver the foundational experience we expect, while the delighters will bring additional capabilities to complement our experience.
Parker didn't specifically say 'Windows 11'
Though Parker didn't specifically say he was talking about Windows 11, the enablers and delighters he highlighted surely indicated that he was talking about something big. This is also evident from the fact that he used the term 'modern OS' as many as 16 times.
What enablers this 'modern OS' could offer
Speaking about enablers, Parker claimed that a modern operating system would install updates invisibly, without any interruption. He said it would stay protected against malicious attacks throughout its lifecycle and remain connected all the time thanks to WiFi, LTE, and 5G. Plus, as you could expect, the modern OS would also offer sustainable performance and battery-life, letting you work and play without any concerns.
Delighters to upgrade your experience
While enablers will form the bone structure of an ideal PC, the delighters will make it more capable, useful. This, according to Parker, would be achieved with the help of cloud connectivity that would leverage the compute power of the cloud to enhance on-device experiences. The OS will also use intelligent AI to predict and handle user tasks and improve application experiences.
Plus, it would include multi-sense and form factor agility
Among other things, the Microsoft-envisioned OS would be customizable for different form factors. It will also be multi-sense capable, where any input method - be it pen, voice, touch or even gaze - would work with the device.
However, nothing is confirmed as of now
Parker emphasized, "Microsoft is investing to enable these modern OS experiences, and to deliver new ones that take advantage of silicon advancements, powerful PCs, the cloud and power of AI." Now, this seems to indicate that the company will bring this experiences sometime in future; it's just that we don't if they will come in Windows 11, Windows Lite or another Windows 10 update.
