Xiaomi Mi A2 v/s Mi A2 Lite: The key differences
Xiaomi recently unveiled its latest Android One devices - Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite - at a global event in Spain. Both phones run stock Android Oreo and sport AI-powered cameras. However, in terms of design and specs, there are some key differences that set apart the Lite version from the full-fledged Mi A2. Here's more.
At a glance
In terms of design, the first noticeable difference is in the screen. The Mi A2 Lite sports a notch-based display while Mi A2 gets a traditional display with prominent bezels on the top and bottom. The other change is on the rear-panel where the antenna bands are visible on the Mi A2 Lite variant, while Mi A2 has the bands concealed around the edges.
All about the screen
The Xiaomi Mi A2 features a 5.99-inch full-HD+ (1080x2160 pixels) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, and 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass 5 protection. On the other hand, the Mi A2 Lite gets a 5.84-inch (1080x2280 pixels) notch-based display with a 19:9 aspect ratio (thanks to the notch), and 2.5D glass.
For the shutterbugs
The Mi A2 gets a dual camera setup with 12MP+20MP Sony sensors and an aperture of f/1.75, PDAF and dual-tone LED flash. The Mi A2 Lite also sports a dual rear-camera setup but with mid-level optics including a 12MP primary sensor with 1.25-micron pixels and PDAF and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. Notably, both phones come with AI-powered camera features.
For the love of Selfies
Up front, the Mi A2 gets a 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor with f/1.75 aperture, fixed focal length, and LED flash. On the other hand, the Mi A2 Lite settles with a basic 5-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture. However, like the rear cameras, even the front cameras on both phones come with AI-powered features like Portrait Mode and Beautify 4.0.
All the important stuff
The Mi A2 is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 660 processor with AI engine, paired with up to 6GB RAM and up to 128GB internal storage. The phone packs a 3,010mAh battery which supports QuickCharge 3.0. The Mi A2 Lite gets Snapdragon 625 processor, along with 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB internal storage (expandable up to 256GB) and packs a 4,000mAh battery.
Connectivity options, sensors and software
In terms of connectivity, both phones get standard options like 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth (v5.0 on A2, v4.2 on A2 Lite). The major difference is that Mi A2 gets USB Type-C (for charging and audio output) while Mi A2 Lite offers Micro-USB port and headphone jack. Moreover, both phones get a standard set of sensors and run stock Android Oreo.
How things stack up!
Of course, Mi A2 is far superior to the Lite version in terms of camera specs, and AI-engine chipset. That said, Mi A2 Lite sports a trendier display and packs better battery as compared to the Mi A2. Catering to slightly different audience, both the phones are good-looking budget range devices that would attract buyers looking for pure Android experience and timely OS updates.
