Polish billionaire Rafal Brzoska to sue Meta over misleading ads
Rafal Brzoska, a Polish billionaire and founder of InPost, is preparing to take legal action against Meta. The potential lawsuit stems from the tech giant's alleged failure to address fake advertisements featuring Brzoska and his wife on its platforms. Brzoska first reported the issue of misleading advertisements to the company in July, but did not receive a satisfactory resolution.
Unresolved complaint against Meta
Brzoska stated, "We plan to file a private lawsuit against Meta... We have not yet determined in which jurisdictions we will sue Meta. We will decide in the next few weeks." The billionaire also hinted at considering all potential scenarios, including filing a lawsuit in the US if no action is taken in Europe.
Brzoska's demands and charity compensation
Brzoska and his wife are demanding that Meta stop profiting from content that violates their rights. They are also seeking substantial compensation to be donated to a charity. The couple insists that this compensation should match the advertising revenue generated by spreading such misinformation. This demand underscores their commitment not only to personal justice but also to broader social responsibility.
Personal Data Protection Office intervenes in Meta's ad issue
The President of the Personal Data Protection Office has ordered Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, to halt displaying false advertisements using real data and images of Brzoska and his wife. This order is applicable for three months on Facebook and Instagram in Poland. As of now, Meta has not provided any comment on this impending legal action or the regulatory intervention from the data protection office.
