Announced in 2021, Meta's most awaited VR game delayed indefinitely
Meta has announced an indefinite pause on the development of the virtual reality (VR) version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for its Quest platform. The project was first unveiled nearly three years ago, but has now been put on hold to prioritize other initiatives. This information was confirmed by Meta in a YouTube video comment and to IGN.
Meta's statement on project suspension
In response to a comment on a video for Skydance's Behemoth, the Meta Quest VR account stated, "GTA: San Andreas is on hold indefinitely while we both focus on other projects." The company also expressed its eagerness to collaborate with Rockstar Games in the future. This announcement indicates a shift in focus for both companies away from this particular VR adaptation.
Original announcement and project details
The VR version of GTA: San Andreas was initially announced in October 2021, during Meta's Connect conference. It was being developed specifically for the Meta Quest 2. The company had promised a fresh take on Los Santos, San Fierro, and Las Venturas through this project. However, no footage or screenshots of the VR adaptation were ever released by Meta or Rockstar Games.
